Cisco has reported that its recent global deployment of Wi-Fi 7 technology has resulted in significant improvements in enterprise security, alongside enhanced connectivity and network performance. The initiative, carried out by Cisco’s internal IT team, demonstrated that modernizing network infrastructure can lead to both speed enhancements and a notable reduction in security incidents. Cisco revealed that some sites experienced up to a 40 percent decrease in reported security issues following the rollout.

The deployment exemplifies Cisco’s approach to integrating networking and security functions rather than treating them as distinct disciplines. Mohannad Abuissa, Cisco’s chief technology officer and senior director for solutions engineering at METAC, emphasized that network modernization provides an opportunity to embed security more deeply within enterprise operations. He highlighted how the combination of Wi-Fi 7 with zero trust principles, enhanced network segmentation, and integrated security controls can simultaneously improve protection without complicating the user or IT experience.

Cisco’s Secure Networking framework, reinforced through this deployment, focuses on three core pillars to strengthen security during network upgrades. First, zero trust is enforced at the network layer by rigorously verifying both users and devices before granting access. Cisco achieves this using its Identity Services Engine in conjunction with Wi-Fi Protected Access 3, which bolsters authentication for wireless connections.

Second, security functions are embedded directly into network infrastructure components—including routers, switches, and access points—to protect data traffic and enhance encryption. This integrated approach counters wireless attack vectors by building protection into the foundational hardware and software, rather than relying on separate or layered security solutions.

Through this Wi-Fi 7 deployment and its emphasis on secure networking, Cisco aims to provide a practical model for enterprises seeking to modernize their networks while simultaneously strengthening cybersecurity postures. The company’s experience underscores the potential benefits of aligning network architecture upgrades with comprehensive security strategies in an increasingly connected business environment.
