The City of Chicago, through its Department of Planning and Development, has issued a public notice regarding the proposed sale or transfer of several city-owned properties. The announcement details four specific parcels currently earmarked for transfer to various organizations, along with opportunities for alternative proposals from interested parties.
The properties identified include: 1603 and 1609 South Kedzie Avenue, totaling 15,060 square feet, proposed for transfer to One Lawndale Children’s Discovery Center (1LCDC) to support an interactive children’s museum; 6356 and 6000 South St. Lawrence Avenue, comprising 11,067 square feet, slated for Blacks in Green’s Sustainable Square Mile West Woodlawn beautification initiative; 9810-12 South Ewing Avenue, covering 6,075 square feet, intended for Centro de Trabajadores Unidos: United Workers’ Center to establish a community garden; and 5645 West West End Avenue, totaling 8,495 square feet, proposed for transfer to Tracie Blackwell for development as open space.
The Department has indicated that specific purchase prices and detailed descriptions of the proposed projects are available on the city’s ChiBlockBuilder.com website. While some transfers are designated specifically for government entities, utility companies, and affordable housing developers chosen through competitive processes, the department is inviting alternative proposals from other interested parties to be submitted by June 30, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. local time.
Submissions for alternative proposals must be made in writing to the Land Resources Division of the Department of Planning and Development, Attention: Meg Gustafson, at 121 North LaSalle Street, Room 905, Chicago, IL 60602. Proposals should include a detailed description of the development project, proposed purchase price, identities of the parties involved, proof of financial capacity, and the ability to meet project implementation timelines.
The city reserves the right to reject any or all proposals or to request additional information for clarification. Furthermore, individuals or entities currently in default on any loan or debt owed to the City of Chicago, or otherwise in breach of any contractual obligations with the city, are not eligible to submit proposals.
