Leaders of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, are preparing to file a petition with the Delhi High Court seeking their release from judicial custody. The move comes after a Special Executive Magistrate (SEM) court extended their detention in connection with the Janat Martar trespassing case.

The SEM court, presided over by Ritu Raj at Mandir Marg police station, ordered the extension of their custody until October 21. This decision followed the conclusion of an earlier five-day custodial period on Monday. In its ruling, the court criticized the conduct of the two leaders, stating it "shows no respect for law" and indicates a “habitualness in calling protest at de-notified areas.”

The SEM court’s order highlighted concerns raised by the investigating officer, noting substantial evidence suggesting that Das and Ranka’s actions posed a potential threat to public order and could disturb community peace. The court also observed that both individuals had violated the bonds they had previously submitted on October 11 to the SEM of the South-West District, in addition to breaching peace in the current case.

The CJP leaders have maintained their intent to challenge the extension of their judicial custody by approaching the Delhi High Court. Details of their legal strategy have not been disclosed, but the challenge underscores ongoing tensions between the party’s leadership and law enforcement authorities amid the case proceedings.
