A grandmother of a missing South Australian boy has voiced her belief that her grandson was abducted and remains alive, while also expressing concerns about the conduct of the police investigation. Josie Murray, 75, spoke publicly for the first time since her four-year-old grandson, Gus Lamont, went missing from the family’s rural property nine months ago.
In an interview broadcast on 7NEWS Spotlight, Murray described her grandson as “bookish” and said she feared he had been taken against his will. She indicated frustration over what she characterized as police missteps since Gus’s disappearance, which have compounded her family’s distress.
Murray also revealed that she and others close to the case have faced suspicion, stating that she herself was regarded as a “main suspect” in the early stages of the inquiry. Despite this, detectives have not charged anyone in connection with Gus’s disappearance.
The case remains unresolved, with no confirmed sighting or discovery of the boy, and authorities have not publicly commented on the grandmother’s allegations or the progress of the investigation. Family members continue to hold out hope for Gus’s safe return as the search enters its tenth month.
