Sydney FC midfielder Rhys Youlley marked a milestone by scoring his first A-League goal during the club’s 2-1 victory over Adelaide United at Allianz Stadium. The strike, a long-range effort that beat Adelaide goalkeeper Joshua Smits, came in Youlley’s 25th league appearance. Despite the personal achievement, Youlley emphasized his priority remains contributing to the team’s defensive solidity.
Playing in the holding midfield role, commonly referred to as the "No.6" position, Youlley highlighted his focus on maintaining clean sheets as Sydney FC prepares for Saturday’s match against Melbourne City at AAMI Park. Reflecting on his role, Youlley said that the responsibility is to bridge between defense and attack while maintaining a strong defensive presence. He noted that the squad’s pre-season discussions centered on building a resilient backline regardless of game circumstances.
Sydney FC captain Rhyan Grant also expressed appreciation for the club’s dedicated supporter group, The Cove, ahead of the upcoming fixture. The team will don their new Under Armour third kit, designed to honor The Cove’s passionate fan base. The predominantly black jersey features charcoal grey accents and subtle silhouettes depicting supporters in full voice, symbolizing the group’s unwavering support.
“The Cove supporters consistently show up and bring the energy that creates the atmosphere at our games, win or lose,” Grant said.
The third kit will also be worn by Sydney FC’s A-League Women’s team during their match against Brisbane Roar at Gioca Stadium on Saturday. Both teams aim to build on recent performances, with an emphasis on defensive strength and team cohesion as the season progresses.
