Clevedon Town have strengthened their squad with the signings of experienced defender Lloyd James and prolific striker Nick McCootie, signaling their intent ahead of the upcoming Western League season.

James, 38, joins the Seasiders after a lengthy career spanning several clubs. He began with Southampton, where he spent four seasons competing in the Championship, before moving on to play for Leyton Orient, Exeter City, Forest Green Rovers, Taunton Town, and his most recent club, Yate Town. Known for his defensive solidity and leadership on the field, James expressed enthusiasm about joining Clevedon Town. “The club is only going in one direction and when I heard about the project and ambitions for the future, it was something I simply couldn’t say no to. I’m really happy to be a part of it,” he said.

Co-boss Nic Steadman highlighted the significance of the acquisition. “To sign someone of Lloydy’s profile just speaks volumes of the project we are putting in place here at Clevedon Town. We’re very excited to have him join the squad and look forward to working with him this coming season,” Steadman remarked.

Joining James at the club’s Hand Stadium will be forward Nick McCootie, 37, who has built a reputation as one of Non-League football’s most consistent goal scorers. McCootie has previously played for Bath City, Weston-super-Mare, Taunton Town, and Yate Town, earning recognition for his scoring prowess. After a brief discussion with Steadman, McCootie committed to the club, driven by its ambitions. “I knew after a short and brief conversation with Steads, I wanted to come in. He sold me the ambition of the club and I believe we can achieve something big,” McCootie said.

Clevedon Town, aiming to contend for the Western League title, appear to be assembling a squad with a blend of experience and attacking firepower, reflecting their aspirations for success in the forthcoming campaign.
