Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar (CMU-Q), a partner of the Qatar Foundation, has established a new alumni association board to enhance connections among its graduates and support ongoing collaboration within the university community. The initiative aims to foster stronger ties among alumni, encourage engagement, and provide mentorship and professional opportunities for members of the Tartan community.
The board brings together alumni from 15 years of graduating cohorts, representing the campus’s four academic programs: Biological Sciences, Business Administration, Computer Science, and Information Systems. This reflects the diverse academic background and history of the Qatar-based campus, which opened in 2004 as part of Education City.
Michael Trick, dean of CMU-Q, described alumni as key ambassadors for the university and expressed that the formation of the board would help maintain lasting connections. “Establishing the Alumni Association Board will strengthen lifelong connections and create new opportunities for our graduates to engage, collaborate, and give back to the CMU-Q community,” he said.
Fadhel Annan, associate dean for strategic engagement, highlighted the importance of the board in expanding alumni involvement and facilitating meaningful collaboration and mentorship opportunities. “The Alumni Association Board marks an important milestone in strengthening alumni engagement and fostering lifelong connections,” he explained.
The leadership team of the new board includes president Sheikh Mohammad bin Faisal al-Thani, who graduated in Business Administration in 2011. The vice presidents representing each academic discipline are Dr. Abdulrahman al-Subaiey (Biological Sciences, 2017), Dr. Sara al-Asmakh (Business Administration, 2009), Fatima Youssef (Computer Science, expected 2025), and Dr. Emad al-Kuwari (Information Systems, 2014). The board's treasurer is Amiko Gogitidze, a Business Administration graduate of 2024, and the secretary is Ramsey Massoun, who also graduated in Business Administration in 2011.
CMU-Q’s alumni network has grown to more than 1,500 professionals, the majority of whom are employed within Qatar. The formation of the alumni association board is intended to support this network’s development and strengthen its role in the university’s community and broader professional landscape.
