The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) has cleared junior doubles coach Pang Cheh Chang to resume his duties following a recent health incident. Cheh Chang, 52, returned to work at the Academy Badminton Malaysia (ABM) in Bukit Kiara on Tuesday after experiencing a medical emergency three weeks ago.

The coach reportedly nearly fainted while overseeing matches at the National Under-19 Championships in Alor Setar and was subsequently admitted to Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital. Following initial treatment, he was referred to the National Heart Institute (IJN) in Kuala Lumpur for further evaluation.

According to BAM secretary Datuk Kenny Goh, medical professionals have advised Cheh Chang to limit long-distance travel as part of his recovery plan. This restriction means he will not be accompanying the national junior team to upcoming international competitions, including the World Junior Championships in Cairo and the Malaysia Super 100 tournament scheduled to take place in Iskandar Puteri, Johor, next week.

Despite these travel limitations, Cheh Chang remains responsible for directing the national junior doubles training program. His workload will be adjusted to help facilitate his recuperation, with assistant coaches taking on additional responsibilities under his guidance.

Kenny Goh emphasized that while Cheh Chang will continue his coaching activities and office attendance without restriction, the priority is his health and adherence to medical advice. The BAM is committed to providing the necessary support and accommodations to ensure a balanced approach between recovery and coaching duties.

"We will follow the doctor's recommendations closely. Cheh Chang can maintain his coaching role and be present at the office as usual, but reducing travel is essential for his well-being," Goh stated.
