The Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen announced on Saturday that it had conducted proportionate military strikes against Houthi militia targets in the Hodeidah Governorate. This action followed an attack by the Houthis on commercial vessels navigating the Red Sea, a critical international maritime corridor.

Maj. Gen. Turki Al-Maliki, the coalition spokesman, characterized the Houthi attack as reckless and deliberate, emphasizing that it forms part of an ongoing pattern of threats aimed at commercial shipping in the area. He stated that the coalition’s response was carefully calibrated and targeted exclusively military sites associated with the Houthis’ capacity to endanger commercial traffic.

Al-Maliki underscored that the operation adhered to the principles of customary international humanitarian law and that its objectives were successfully met. He clarified that Hodeidah Port was not among the targets struck and assured that key Yemeni ports—including Hodeidah, Ras Isa, and Salif—remain open and fully operational. These ports continue to facilitate the import and export of essential goods such as food, commodities, oil, and construction materials.

Additionally, air traffic to and from various Yemeni airports has not been disrupted and remains active, according to the coalition representative.

The coalition’s statement did not provide details on the extent of damage sustained by Houthi forces or casualties resulting from the strikes. The move reflects ongoing tensions in Yemen, where the coalition has been engaged in military operations against the Houthi movement amid a protracted conflict impacting regional security and humanitarian conditions.
