Two students at St Gregory’s College in Campbelltown, southwest Sydney, have been suspended following charges related to the alleged sexual assault of a 17-year-old girl, as the school seeks to address community concerns ahead of its upcoming centenary celebrations. The Catholic school confirmed in a letter to parents on Friday that the two 17-year-old boys, charged alongside a third teenager from Elderslie High School, are currently suspended pending the outcome of legal proceedings.

Principal Matthew Brennan emphasized the school’s commitment to the safety and wellbeing of students and staff, stating that disciplinary action was underway according to established policies. He assured the community that no student facing serious criminal charges would be permitted on campus while such matters were ongoing. Elderslie High School, which the third accused attends, has not suspended its student but reportedly has provided support to his Year 12 cohort.

According to police allegations, the three teenagers were involved in the repeated sexual assault of the girl at a home in the Macarthur region after a drinking session at a local pub. One of the accused is said to have taken the victim to a residence where he allegedly raped her before inviting the other two boys to join in. The attack reportedly left the victim severely distressed and struggling to walk afterward.

Legal proceedings are underway, with two of the boys having applied for bail in Campbelltown Children’s Court last week. Both were released on conditions including home detention, daily police reporting, and restrictions on communicating with each other or any witnesses. The third accused, described as the main instigator, did not seek bail and remains in custody.

Charges against the boys include multiple counts of aggravated sexual assault in company, sexual intercourse without consent, common assault, and other related offenses. The case is scheduled to return to court in October.

The Department of Education expressed concern over the incident, reiterating support for the alleged victim and condemning the alleged conduct. Meanwhile, Elderslie High School has been reportedly maintaining communication with affected students and offering wellbeing resources.

This case comes shortly after another unrelated incident involving students from Scots College, where three boys aged 13 and 14 are accused of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl in Bondi. Those students have not been suspended, according to available information.

Authorities continue to investigate the matter as community discussions around student safety and school responsibilities remain active.
