Morgan Whittaker scored a late goal to secure a 1-0 victory for the Colorado Rapids against the Vancouver Whitecaps on Saturday at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colorado. The win ended Colorado’s five-game winless run, improving their record to 12-13-6 and moving them into a tie for seventh place in the Major League Soccer Western Conference.

The Whitecaps, who fell to 16-8-7 with the loss, remain atop the Western Conference standings with 55 points. They now hold a narrow one-point lead over Dallas FC with three regular-season matches remaining.

The decisive moment came in the 81st minute when Kosi Thompson’s shot from the right side of the penalty area struck the crossbar. Vancouver goalkeeper Yohei Takaoka was drawn toward Thompson, leaving the net open for Whittaker, who headed the ball in from the goal line to put Colorado ahead.

Throughout the match, the Rapids outshot Vancouver 18-8 and led 8-2 in shots on target. Despite this, Colorado’s attempts were often thwarted, with four shots blocked and Takaoka managing seven saves during the game.

The victory gives the Rapids momentum as they aim to improve their standing in the playoff race, while the Whitecaps will look to maintain their lead in the final weeks of the regular season.
