Colorado State University issued a formal apology on Saturday night following the use of derogatory chants directed at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints during a recent event. The chants, which originated from the stands, targeted members affiliated with the church, which is closely associated with Brigham Young University (BYU).

In a statement, Colorado State emphasized that mocking any religion is inconsistent with the institution’s values and traditions. The university acknowledged that the behavior was inappropriate and expressed regret that players, coaches, and supporters of BYU were subjected to such remarks.

BYU, known as the flagship institution for the church commonly referred to as the Mormon faith, had been the focus of the chant-related controversy. The university’s leadership and community were not immediately available for comment on the apology.

Colorado State’s statement reaffirmed its commitment to fostering an inclusive environment and underscored that respect for all faiths is fundamental to the campus community. The school indicated that it would take measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
