Russell Brand, the British comedian and actor, is on trial at Southwark Crown Court in London facing multiple allegations of sexual offences. The 51-year-old denies charges brought by six women, which include three counts of rape, three counts of sexual assault, and one count of indecent assault. The alleged incidents span a decade from 1999 to 2009.

During the proceedings, jurors heard a detailed account from one of the accusers, an MTV worker in her twenties at the time of the alleged assault in 2004. She recounted meeting Brand at a bar in Soho, London, during a friend’s birthday party. According to her testimony, Brand, who was then hosting the Big Brother’s Big Mouth spin-off show, approached her and within seconds grabbed her breasts without warning.

She described Brand’s expression as having a “weird maniacal grin,” likened to a clown, and stated he had a “threatening look” in his eye. She said he forcibly pulled her into a cubicle in the bar’s toilet, locked the door, and compelled her to perform oral sex despite her protests. The woman told officers, “What are you doing? I don’t want to do this,” to which Brand allegedly replied, “Come on, don’t be a spoilsport.” She described feeling overwhelmed and immobilized during the assault and recalled how the force and his looming presence intimidated her into compliance.

After the incident, she reported being in shock and unable to open the cubicle door, leading to someone outside asking if she was okay. Brand reportedly unlocked the door casually and later followed her around the bar, suggesting they exchange phone numbers as if nothing had occurred. The woman then left with colleagues and was taken to another venue by Brand’s driver. She said Brand entered the car, exposed himself again, and asked her to perform another sexual act. She declined, and Brand dismissed her refusal with a joking tone.

The accuser explained she did not disclose the full details of the incident until 2023, following media reports and a documentary that prompted several women to come forward with allegations against Brand. She expressed feelings of shame and confusion but emphasised that the remorse was misplaced and that responsibility for the assault lies with Brand.

Russell Brand has consistently denied all allegations of sexual misconduct. At the trial, he was observed sitting quietly with his wife, Laura Gallacher. The case remains ongoing as the court hears further testimonies from other accusers and defence witnesses.
