Commercial Bank has launched Pay by Plate, an innovative fuel payment solution that allows customers to pay automatically using their vehicle’s license plate number. The system, introduced exclusively for Commercial Bank cardholders, eliminates the need for phones, cards, or any human interaction, offering a fully frictionless payment experience.

To use the service, customers register their vehicle plate number through the CBQ Mobile App and link it securely to their preferred payment card. Payments are then triggered automatically when the vehicle is detected at participating fuel stations. The technology is integrated with Commercial Bank’s customized Pay by Plate payment module and leverages PCI-compliant systems to maintain high standards of data privacy and transaction security.

Stephen Moss, Group CEO of Commercial Bank, emphasized that the development was driven by customer needs and a commitment to innovation. Moss stated that the bank aims to streamline the banking experience while aligning with global trends in mobility and contactless payments. He also highlighted the bank’s support for Qatar Central Bank’s initiatives to advance digital transformation within the country.

The Pay by Plate service is now available at West Bay Petrol Station, marking the first deployment of this global-first technology in Qatar. By introducing this system, Commercial Bank is positioning itself as a leader in digital banking and merchant acquiring innovations, aiming to redefine convenience for motorists and enhance the digital payment landscape nationwide.
