State Minister for Youth and Sports Md Aminul Haque announced plans to establish a committee to assess the performance of various federations that took part in the recent Asian Games. He shared this information on Sunday while addressing journalists ahead of a meeting at the Secretariat focused on expanding support for athletes through the ‘Sports Card’ initiative.

Responding to questions about Bangladesh’s football team’s showing at the Games, Aminul described the outcome as “extremely disappointing” but cautioned against undue discouragement at this early stage. He emphasized the importance of learning from the experience and using it as a foundation for improved results in the future.

Aminul noted that the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) had appointed its current coach following a review of federation activities. Drawing from his own observations, he expressed cautious optimism, stating that although the process is still in its initial phase, positive outcomes are expected over time.

“We have started, but we want to get this result later,” Aminul remarked, acknowledging that the team is still adjusting and working toward fulfilling the aspirations of the Bangladeshi public regarding sports performance. He suggested that early results might fluctuate between successes and setbacks as part of this developmental phase.

Addressing a separate issue related to Bangladesh’s absence from the recent T20 World Cup, Aminul responded to calls for punitive measures following an investigation committee’s report. The report indicated that Bangladesh missed the tournament due to the personal decision of an individual. Aminul argued that simply imposing punishments would not resolve the underlying problems.

He stressed that the message conveyed to all stakeholders is that the nation’s affairs should not be dictated by any one person. “We have already conveyed the message that the country belongs to all of us and that no individual should be allowed to make such a decision in the future,” the state minister said, underscoring a collective approach to managing sports governance moving forward.
