Como surged to the top of the Serie A standings after securing a convincing 4-1 victory over Genoa in Friday’s early league fixture. The match took place in Genoa, as Como have yet to play at their renovated home ground, Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia, due to ongoing refurbishment work.

Genoa struck first in the 19th minute when Milutin Osmajic capitalized on a swift counter-attack, converting a low cross from Lorenzo Colombo. However, Como responded swiftly, leveling the score six minutes later through a long-range strike by Martin Baturina that found the bottom corner of the net.

Shortly after, Senegalese forward Assane Diao put Como ahead with a well-executed volley in the 30th minute. Nico Paz extended the visitors’ lead before halftime, scoring his first goal of the season with a powerful finish after receiving a through ball from Yan Couto.

Diao, 20, sealed the win in the 78th minute by calmly placing the ball in the corner of the net following impressive hold-up play by Moise Kean. Kean was making his debut for Como, having joined on loan from Fiorentina on transfer deadline day.

Como, managed by Cesc Fabregas, who led the team to a fourth-place finish last season and a historic qualification for the Champions League, now have seven points from their opening three matches. The victory marks an important statement as the club aims to build on their promising start to the campaign.
