The stadium, which has a current capacity of approximately 13,000, is undergoing a £50 million refurbishment ahead of the club’s first-ever appearance in Europe’s premier club competition.

Como secured a surprising fourth-place finish in Serie A this season under the management of former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fàbregas, qualifying for the Champions League for the first time in their history. However, the ongoing stadium upgrades mean that UEFA’s final approval is required before official confirmation that Como can host matches at their home ground.

Concerns remain over attendance and ticket allocation, as only about 600 tickets would be available for visiting supporters if matches proceed at Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia. To mitigate potential issues, the 21,525-capacity Mapei Stadium in Sassuolo—located roughly 150 miles from Como—is on standby as an alternative venue should the home ground fail to meet UEFA standards in time.

Como is drawn in a group alongside reigning champions Paris Saint-Germain, as well as RB Leipzig and AEK Athens. The group stage fixture list will be announced today, and club officials indicate that if Como’s first Champions League match is away, their first home game would not occur until mid-October. This scheduling would provide additional time to complete the stadium renovations and secure necessary approvals.

The club’s ambition to welcome elite European teams on home turf reflects its rapid rise in Italian football, while logistical challenges related to stadium capacity and renovation work continue to be addressed ahead of the forthcoming season.
