Leicestershire and Essex remain locked in a tense contest in Division One of the County Championship as the match heads into its next phase at Leicester. At Trent Bridge, Somerset took a commanding position against Nottinghamshire. In Division Two, Durham posted 377 at Riverside, highlighted by contributions from B A Raine and G Clark. Derbyshire struggled, dismissed for 118 and trailing in their second innings at 99 for 4. Lancashire found themselves in a similar position at Blackpool, bowling out Kent for 178 before conceding a strong reply of 320 for 8. Lancashire were bowled out for 87 in their first innings. Northamptonshire posted a commanding 465 at home against Gloucestershire, led by Saif Zaib’s 142 and a century from N A McSweeney. Gloucestershire reached 233 for 5. At New Road, Middlesex scored 339 before Worcestershire made 265 in reply.
In international cricket, India secured a seven-wicket win over Afghanistan in the first One Day International at Dharamsala. Afghanistan posted 194, with R Gurbaz scoring a century, but India chased the target comfortably, finishing on 195 for 3, led by S Gill’s unbeaten 84.
The ICC Women’s World Twenty20 saw Australia defeat South Africa by 65 runs at Old Trafford, with Australia finishing on 172 for 8. In another match at the same venue, Scotland beat Ireland by 40 runs, reaching 161 for 5 before dismissing Ireland for 121.
Cycling’s Tour Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes concluded Stage 7 with I del Toro of UAE Team Emirates-XRG taking the win after 3 hours and 41 minutes of racing. However, L Tuckwell (Red Bull-BORA-Hansgrohe) retained the overall lead. The Women’s Copenhagen Sprint was won by L Wiebes of Team SD Worx-Protime, completing the 156-kilometer race in just under 3 hours and 42 minutes.
In darts, the PDC BetVictor World Cup of Darts continued in Frankfurt with Republic of Ireland, Latvia, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland advancing into the next round following victories over Poland, France, Norway, USA, and Belgium respectively.
At the World Superbikes Grand Prix of Emilia Romagna held at Misano, Italian rider N Bulega secured pole position and won Race 1 on his Ducati. Bulega extended his lead in the World Championship standings, holding 397 points ahead of Spain’s I Lecuona.
In netball, London Pulse edged Loughborough 60-56 in the Superleague preliminary final.
Rugby league action in the Betfred Super League featured a 34-28 win for Catalans against Castleford and a 36-12 victory for Hull over Huddersfield. In the 1895 Cup semi-final, London Broncos dominated Midlands Hurricanes 62-24, while Barrow held on to defeat Sheffield 18-16 in the Championship.
In rugby union, Exeter narrowly overcame Bath 27-26 in the Gallagher Premiership semi-final. Bath scored four tries through Obano, du Toit, Cokanasiga, and Arundell, but Exeter responded with tries from Tshiunza, Hammersley, Fisilau, and Burger to claim victory.
