A three-day countdown event leading up to Malaysia’s National Day will take place at Dataran Merdeka from August 29 to 31, featuring a concert and various activities. The “Festival Ambang Merdeka 2026: Malaysia Madani – Kesejahteraan Dinikmati,” organized by CIMB Bank Bhd in collaboration with Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), is expected to draw over 100,000 attendees. Admission to the event is free.
The centerpiece of the festival will be the “Konsert Kita Bagi Jadi @ Ambang Merdeka 2026” on August 30. This 90-minute musical performance, directed by creative director Pat Ibrahim, will build anticipation as the clock approaches midnight on National Day. The concert will showcase local artistes including Aina Abdul, Aman RA, Nadia Aqilah, Asmidar, Haziq Rosebi, Mimifly, Izen Kong, and Pasya. They will perform alongside 70 dancers and a 60-member orchestra from Orkestra Kuala Lumpur. The show will feature the debut of three new songs, offering audiences a dynamic and varied program.
In addition to the entertainment, the festival will host a fireworks display over Dataran Merdeka at midnight to mark the National Day countdown. The event also highlights the involvement of micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) and local entrepreneurs, who will sell food, beverages, and other local products throughout the three days.
The Festival Ambang Merdeka aims to foster a sense of unity and celebration among Malaysians, combining cultural performances with opportunities to support local businesses. Organizers anticipate the gathering will create a festive atmosphere leading into the nation's 2026 Independence Day commemorations.
