The Connecticut Sun secured a 68-57 victory over the Washington Mystics on Sunday in Uncasville, marking their first consecutive wins of the WNBA season. Leila Lacan and Olivia Nelson-Ododa led the charge for Connecticut, each contributing 12 points. Nelson-Ododa also grabbed nine rebounds, while Kennedy Burke added 11 points off the bench. Lacan contributed four steals, bolstering the Sun’s defensive effort.
The Sun improved their record to 4-15 with this win, overcoming early-season struggles. Their balanced attack and strong presence in the paint, where they outscored the Mystics by 16 points, were key factors in the victory.
Washington, now 8-9, faced offensive challenges throughout the game. The Mystics shot just 35% from the field and converted 54% of their free throws. Brittney Griner and Charlisse Leger-Walker each scored 10 points to lead the Mystics’ efforts. Georgia Amoore was the game’s top scorer with 14 points, while Sonia Citron and Kiki Iriafen also reached double figures with 11 points apiece.
Late in the contest, Washington called a timeout with 1:06 remaining, but turnovers in the final minute ultimately sealed their second consecutive loss. Connecticut’s disciplined defense and effective ball control down the stretch ensured the win despite the absence of head coach Rachid Meziane, who missed the game due to illness. Associate head coach Roneeka Hodges stepped in to lead the team in Meziane’s place.
