A construction worker was killed after being struck by a private car while resting on a footpath in Baridhara’s Diplomatic Zone on Tuesday evening, police reported. The victim, identified as 24-year-old Mehedi Hasan Mir from Nilphamari, died at the scene around 5:30 p.m.

Authorities said the incident occurred when a black car mounted the footpath and ran over Mehedi, who was taking a break, according to a video circulating on social media. Bystanders rushed to the location and removed Mehedi’s body from beneath the vehicle.

Ismail Hossain, an inspector with Gulshan Police Station, stated that locals detained a 16-year-old boy found in the car and handed him over to law enforcement. The vehicle was confiscated as part of the investigation.

Inspector Hossain added that the car belongs to the teenager’s father, but someone else was driving at the time. Police are currently seeking to apprehend the driver involved in the incident. Further inquiries are ongoing.
