The States of Guernsey has announced an opening for a Consultant Psychiatrist specializing in Adult Psychiatry within its Specialist Mental Health Service. The position is based on the island of Guernsey, offering psychiatrists the opportunity to work in a closely integrated team environment while delivering patient-centered care.

The role involves collaborating with a small group of psychiatrists and multidisciplinary teams dedicated to continuity and comprehensive care. The service reportedly handles lower patient volumes than many larger healthcare systems, allowing practitioners more time to develop therapeutic relationships and actively contribute to service development.

Guernsey, located in the Channel Islands, promotes a combination of professional opportunity and quality of life. The island features a commute average of under 20 minutes, coastal walking paths, and recreational activities such as sea swimming. It also provides access to excellent schools and a safe community, with direct transport links to both the United Kingdom and mainland Europe.

Compensation for the consultant role ranges from £119,908 to £167,028 annually. Additional benefits include a generous relocation package, long-term employment permits available for qualified candidates and their immediate family, and coverage of professional fees such as General Medical Council registration, Medical Defence Union membership, and Royal College fees. The position also includes a pension scheme, 30 to 32 days of annual leave, and provision for study leave and allowances.

Interested applicants are encouraged to reach out for informal discussions to Dr. Dominic Bishop, Clinical Director, or Stephen Parker, Associate Director of Mental Health. The deadline for applications is 23 October 2026, with submissions accepted via the official government recruitment portal.

This move forms part of Guernsey’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its mental health services by attracting experienced consultants to play pivotal roles in service enhancement within an integrated health and care system.
