A four-year-old boy was nearly abducted outside a McDonald’s restaurant in Brooklyn on Monday evening before his mother, an off-duty New York Police Department officer, intervened and prevented the attempted kidnapping, authorities said.

The incident occurred around 5 p.m. near the intersection of Eastern Parkway and Utica Avenue in the Crown Heights neighborhood. According to law enforcement sources, an unidentified woman grabbed the child from his 66-year-old grandmother outside the fast-food establishment.

The suspect attempted to cross the street with the boy but was stopped when the child’s mother, who was present at the scene, quickly intervened and took the child back into her custody. The abductor fled the area without the child, and no injuries were reported.

Authorities have released surveillance images showing a woman wearing a white shirt, black shorts, and black sandals, seeking assistance from the public in identifying and locating the suspect. The NYPD is continuing its investigation into the attempted abduction.
