A council worker in Hervey Bay has been sentenced after threatening to burn down a police officer’s home following drink-driving charges. Mathew Davey, 41, pleaded guilty in Hervey Bay Magistrates Court to making threats, drink driving, failing to provide a breath specimen, and obstructing police.
According to court proceedings, Davey was found to be heavily intoxicated when stopped by police while driving. He later refused to submit to a breath test at the police station. During the hearing, the magistrate noted that Davey issued threats aimed at influencing legal proceedings. Specifically, Davey threatened to set fire to a police officer’s house and shed if the charges against him were pursued.
The magistrate described the threats as an attempt by Davey to secure a legal advantage by intimidating authorities. As a result, Davey was fined $1,800 and banned from driving for six months. Additionally, he received a six-month prison sentence, which was wholly suspended for a period of nine months.
