Police in Davie, Florida, have reopened an investigation into New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith following allegations of battery at his residence last weekend. Initial reports indicated that the case had been closed without any arrests, but the Davie Police Department later clarified that the matter remains under active investigation.
Officers were called to Smith’s home at approximately 4:40 p.m. on Sunday in response to the alleged incident. A spokesperson for the police department initially stated that no one was taken into custody and that the investigation had been concluded. However, a subsequent statement on Monday evening revealed that detectives are continuing to examine the case. The department declined to provide further details or explain the reversal.
The allegations surfaced publicly after a woman named Kristen posted videos on her Instagram Story claiming Smith had physically assaulted her. In one clip exceeding 80 seconds, she accused the quarterback of striking her, accompanied by a caption asserting that Smith had "beat my ass." Kristen also alleged that Smith’s behavior was connected to family-related tensions, specifically mentioning challenges related to his care for their special needs child. She further claimed that Smith broke her computer, threw her purses outside, and stole money from her vehicle during the incident.
The woman’s footage included a brief segment showing Smith speaking with police officers in uniform. Smith has not issued any public statement addressing the accusations. The Jets organization also declined to comment when contacted.
In contrast, the mother of Smith’s son, Seven, defended the quarterback on social media, responding to Kristen’s accusations. She asserted that Smith has always been capable of caring for their child and urged others not to involve their son in the dispute, describing it as a "web of dysfunction."
Smith, who rejoined the Jets earlier this offseason after being traded from the Las Vegas Raiders, is poised to serve as the team’s starting quarterback for the upcoming NFL season. The Davie Police Department said a police report will be released once the investigation concludes and it is authorized for public release.
