French tennis player Corentin Moutet faces a fine following the use of repeated profanity during a live BBC broadcast at the Queen’s Club tournament. The 27-year-old was captured swearing multiple times during a post-match interview on the Andy Murray Arena after his three-set victory over fellow Frenchman Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard.
Moutet’s match concluded with a 6-7, 6-4, 7-6 win, and the interview conducted by BBC presenter Jenny Drummond quickly drew attention for the player’s language. When asked about facing his opponent’s fast serve, Moutet used the expletive “f***” several times, prompting Drummond to intervene and request a cessation of the language on air. Despite issuing apologies twice during the interview, Moutet continued to use the profanity when responding to a question about his first grass-court victory.
The live broadcast, which reached an estimated 9,000 spectators at the venue as well as millions of television viewers, led to multiple on-air apologies from BBC presenter Clare Balding. Former professional player and commentator Annabel Croft described Moutet’s language as “appalling” in reaction to the incident.
Moutet is scheduled to face Spain’s Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the next round. Davidovich Fokina advanced after a 7-6, 6-2 win over British No. 1 Cameron Norrie. Tennis authorities are expected to impose a financial penalty on Moutet in response to the unsanctioned conduct during the live broadcast.
