Corey Seager is expected to return to the Texas Rangers lineup on Thursday when the team faces the Toronto Blue Jays, following a concussion-related absence. Seager successfully completed consecutive days of intensive workouts on Monday and Tuesday without any setbacks, and he participated in ground-ball drills Wednesday morning, indicating progress through the concussion protocol.
Rangers manager Skip Schumaker emphasized the team’s cautious approach given Seager’s physical condition. In addition to the concussion, the organization remains mindful of Seager’s history with hamstring issues and back inflammation, which previously sidelined him earlier this season. Wednesday’s game start time of 11:10 a.m. Central further complicated the process of securing all medical clearances required for Seager’s return.
“Corey is really good,” Schumaker said. “We will see what it looks like tomorrow, but it has been a really good trip in Miami for him, both physically and mentally. Even though he didn’t play, getting healthy and successfully completing everything needed in the rehab process was important for him and for us. This has served as his rehab assignment, and we want to ensure everything is right, not just with his head.”
Seager has been limited to only five major league games and two minor league rehab appearances over the past six weeks due to ongoing back inflammation followed by the concussion. His absence from Wednesday’s game marked the 33rd missed contest this season. Even if he returns and plays regularly, Seager is on track to participate in fewer than 130 games for the fourth consecutive year.
