The Municipal Council of Kuwait approved several key measures during its regular session on Monday, chaired by Abdullah Al-Mehri. Among the decisions was the endorsement of the General Administration of Customs’ request to expand the Al-Salmi border crossing, a move aimed at enhancing operational capacity at the facility.

Additionally, the Council sanctioned the cancellation of the previously allocated site for the Third Olefins and Second Aromatics Project (D2). This site will instead be reassigned to support the expansion of onshore processing facilities linked to the Al-Durra offshore gas field’s Onshore Processing Facilities (OPF) project, located in the Al-Zour area. The shift reflects evolving priorities in the country’s energy infrastructure development.

The Council also backed a Cabinet decision permitting government entities to temporarily repurpose vacant land originally designated for future projects as parking areas. This measure will remain in effect until construction commences for the intended developments, providing interim solutions for parking demand.

Furthermore, another Cabinet decision approved during the session amended the Municipal Council’s regulations to allow the organization and use of sites within road rights-of-way as parking areas. This adjustment is aimed at optimizing space utilization in urban environments and addressing transportation infrastructure needs.

Collectively, these approvals underscore Kuwait’s ongoing efforts to support infrastructure expansion and improve logistical efficiency across various sectors.
