The final day of the latest round of County Championship Division One fixtures concluded with a series of drawn matches across multiple venues.

At Chelmsford, Surrey and Essex battled to a draw. Surrey, in their second innings, reached 298 for eight declared after resuming on 51 for four overnight. Notable contributions included a century from Ben Foakes, who remained unbeaten on 120. Essex’s bowling attack was led by Ravi Chahar, who took six wickets for 80 runs in Essex’s first innings total of 279, which featured a knock of 113 from Dean Elgar. Essex finished with 12 points, narrowly ahead of Surrey’s 11.

At Sophia Gardens, Glamorgan and Hampshire also shared the points in a drawn game. Hampshire reached 300 for eight declared in their second innings, with top scores from T.E. Albert, who made 64, and A.J. Neal, who contributed 47. Glamorgan managed 161 in their first innings, with B.I. Kellaway scoring 57 and taking four wickets in Hampshire’s first innings of 162. Glamorgan were 21 for three in their second innings when play concluded, with Kellaway remaining not out on eight. Both teams earned 11 points.

In Hove, Somerset and Sussex finished level, with Somerset declaring at 350 for nine in their second innings after posting 202 in the first. Tom Abell led the Somerset batting with 72 in the first innings and added 37 in the second, while H.T. Crocombe claimed five wickets for 56 runs. Sussex batted through 14 overs losing one wicket at 62 when play ended. Sussex finished with 12 points, one more than Somerset’s 11.

At Edgbaston, Warwickshire and Nottinghamshire also drew. Nottinghamshire declared their first innings closed at 325 for eight, with Joe Clarke scoring an unbeaten 150 and B.J.R. Martindale contributing 55. Stone was the standout bowler for Warwickshire, taking five wickets for 49 runs. Warwickshire were dismissed for 185 in their first innings. Nottinghamshire finished the day with 13 points, Warwickshire on 10.

Meanwhile, the match between Yorkshire and Leicestershire at Scarborough ended in a draw due to no play on the final day. Yorkshire posted 263 in their first innings, led by J.H. Wharton’s 70 and G.C.H. Hill’s 62. Leicestershire reached 84 all out in reply before the weather intervened, leaving both sides to share points, with Leicestershire on 11 and Yorkshire on 9.

The latest round of fixtures has left the Division One standings closely contested, with no outright wins and several teams clustered around the top of the table.
