A couple has been arrested and charged in connection with a fatal attack that occurred recently in Alameda County. According to local authorities, the pair was apprehended shortly after the incident by a passing police officer. Video footage from the scene showed the victim’s body lying in a parking lot, with the couple subsequently placed into custody.

The suspects, identified as Zhang and his wife, face multiple serious charges including first-degree murder, felony conspiracy, dangerous discharge of a firearm, and child endangerment that could have resulted in significant injury or death, according to Alameda County Sheriff’s Office records. Zhang is described as being 5-foot-8 and weighing 165 pounds, while his wife is listed as 5-foot-2 and 110 pounds.

Court documents reveal a history of domestic violence allegations involving the couple. In 2025, McKinsey was charged with two counts of misdemeanor child abuse after Jang, his wife, reported to police that McKinsey had struck their 6-year-old son in the face. Additionally, Jang told investigators that McKinsey caused bruising on her arm during a separate domestic dispute in 2018. McKinsey pleaded not guilty to both the child abuse charges and was released under the condition that he complete parenting classes.

Professionally, McKinsey has a nearly 20-year career in the technology sector. His background includes roles as a software engineer at organizations such as NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, and Oracle. He also held a position in product strategy at Coursera. Beginning in 2018, McKinsey transitioned into engineering management at UKG and later held leadership positions at Splunk.

In early 2023, McKinsey joined The New York Times as a senior engineering manager on the games platform team. There, he oversaw infrastructure for popular games like Connections and managed system scaling to accommodate high volumes of traffic. He later advanced to senior engineering manager of the games player experience team before being promoted to director of engineering for games player experience in late 2025. In that role, he led a team of 25 focused on developing new features and monetization strategies for puzzle games with millions of daily users.
