A couple from southern England was sentenced in connection with a voyeurism case involving a secret live-streamed sexual encounter. Chanel Chatta, 32, and Jake Smith, 34, both admitted to offenses related to the covert recording and broadcasting of a private sexual act in August 2024.

The incident occurred in Chatta’s Southampton home, where she invited an unsuspecting male friend for a sexual encounter. Unbeknownst to him, Chatta had installed a hidden camera in her living room and streamed the encounter live to Smith, who was located in Havant. The victim was unaware that the event was being recorded and shared in real time.

During the court proceedings at Southampton Crown Court, Chatta, a mother of two, alleged that the encounter resulted in her contracting a sexually transmitted infection. The victim described enduring severe psychological distress, stating that the trauma was “immeasurable” and led to suicidal thoughts.

Both defendants pleaded guilty to charges of voyeurism. Judge Nigel Peters sentenced them to 18-month community orders, characterizing their conduct as “absolutely disgraceful.” The judge’s remarks underscored the serious breach of trust and violation of privacy involved in the case.
