KUWAIT CITY — Sheikh Talal Al-Khaled was sentenced to three years in prison by the Court of Cassation on Monday in relation to two financial misconduct cases involving state funds. The court ordered the sentences to be combined, resulting in a total enforceable term of three years with hard labor and enforcement.
The ruling follows an appeal against a previous decision by the Ministers Court, which had convicted Sheikh Talal in connection with expenditures made from the budgets of the Ministries of Interior and Defense. The Ministers Court had originally handed down a 14-year prison sentence—seven years for each case—and mandated that Sheikh Talal repay KD 10 million. Additionally, he was fined approximately KD 20 million.
The charges stemmed from accusations of embezzlement and money laundering involving the misappropriation of government funds allocated to the Ministries of Defense and Interior. The Court of Cassation’s judgment effectively reduced the penalties and concluded the legal proceedings against Sheikh Talal in these matters.
