Coventry United ended a three-game losing streak with a hard-fought 3-1 victory over St Ives Town on Sunday. The match, played at Coventry United’s home ground, featured a dramatic turnaround after the visitors took an early lead.
St Ives Town opened the scoring in the 14th minute when Charlie Faulkner capitalized on a loose ball and struck a curling 25-yard shot into the net, beating Coventry’s goalkeeper Zak Massoud. Despite falling behind early, Coventry United responded before halftime to shift the momentum.
Theo Hudson equalized after reacting swiftly to a rebound, firing the ball into the net to level the score. Moments before the break, Coventry took the lead when Shay Palmer rose above the St Ives defense to head home a corner delivered by Leo Stone from the right side, putting the home side ahead 2-1.
The visitors nearly clawed their way back into the match just minutes into the second half. However, a pivotal moment came six minutes after the restart when Massoud brought down Simeon Cobourne inside the penalty area, resulting in a penalty kick. Leo Stone converted the spot-kick with confidence, extending Coventry United’s lead to 3-1.
The win provided a crucial boost for Coventry United as they look to regain form after consecutive defeats, while St Ives Town, who had pressed hard throughout the match, were unable to capitalize on their early advantage.
