Radio presenter Sara Cox is set to take over as host of BBC Radio 2’s breakfast show starting 6 July, succeeding Scott Mills, who was dismissed from the role earlier this year. Cox has expressed confidence in stepping into the position, stating she is prepared for the new challenge and does not feel nervous about the transition.
Cox has been a staple of Radio 2's lineup since 2018, hosting the station’s teatime programme from 4pm to 7pm. Her appointment to the flagship morning slot was announced in April, marking a significant shift in her broadcasting career.
In an interview, Cox acknowledged the magnitude of the role but emphasized her readiness to embrace the responsibility. She noted a personal quirk of avoiding well-wishers’ texts before broadcast by joking about hiding her phone, but said once she begins the show, she will be confident in her abilities.
The breakfast show on Radio 2 remains one of the station’s most prominent programmes, attracting a large daily audience. Cox’s move to this slot reflects the station’s confidence in her talent after several years of successfully engaging listeners during the tea-time segment. The changeover will take effect in early July as she relinquishes her previous afternoon presenting duties.
