Kuwait City’s Criminal Court has sentenced multiple individuals to lengthy prison terms and hefty fines on charges related to drug trafficking and possession. On July 21, the court handed down life sentences to a Kuwaiti national and an Egyptian citizen convicted of smuggling narcotics and intoxicants from Egypt.

In addition, the court imposed a 10-year prison sentence and a KD50,000 fine on another Egyptian found guilty of trafficking and using hashish and psychotropic substances. Similarly, a Kuwaiti citizen received a 10-year sentence and the same fine for trafficking and using hashish.

A significant sentence was given to an illegal resident, identified as a Bedoun, who was convicted of trafficking hashish and psychotropic drugs in the Al-Waha area. This individual was sentenced to 15 years in prison and fined KD10,000.

Two Afghan nationals were sentenced to 10 years in prison each and fined KD50,000 apiece following convictions for trafficking Lyrica tablets in Salmiya.

The Court of Appeals upheld life sentences against two Indian nationals involved in an international drug trafficking ring. The defendants were arrested in Kaifan and Shuwaikh while in possession of 14 kilograms of heroin and eight kilograms of hashish.

Furthermore, the appeals court confirmed prison sentences of 14 and 12 years for two Bedoun defendants. Both were found guilty of trafficking psychotropic substances, drug use, and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

The court’s rulings highlight ongoing measures aimed at combating drug trafficking and related offenses in Kuwait, with penalties reflecting the severity of the crimes.
