Personal information of approximately nine million individuals was publicly released following a cyberattack targeting three airports in the United Kingdom. The data breach involved Manchester Airports Group (MAG), which operates Manchester Airport, London Stansted Airport, and East Midlands Airport.

Hackers initially sought to extort money from MAG by demanding a ransom for the stolen information. After the company declined to meet these demands, the cybercriminal group made the entire dataset available for free on its own website, offering it to other malicious actors.

In response to the incident, Manchester Airports Group stated it is confident that protective measures have been implemented to safeguard affected customers. The exact nature of the compromised data and potential security steps taken were not detailed publicly.

Authorities and cybersecurity experts are likely to continue investigating the breach, which raises concerns about data security in airport operations and the vulnerabilities posed to millions of travelers. Meanwhile, those potentially impacted have been advised to monitor their personal accounts for signs of unauthorized activity.
