A Brisbane teacher has been prohibited from classroom teaching until at least 2034 following a series of abusive and vindictive actions towards his former partner. The disciplinary tribunal revealed that the man engaged in a pattern of cruel behavior after the couple’s relationship ended amid suspicions of his infidelity.
Among the incidents presented in the tribunal was the teacher stabbing a large kitchen knife through a photograph of the woman’s face. He also burned family photos and scattered belongings of the victim’s deceased child across their front lawn. On one occasion, he posted an item that belonged to the child on Facebook for free, accompanied by coffin emojis.
The teacher further escalated his hostility by sending intimate images of the woman to her father alongside derogatory messages. After police were called, he was arrested and issued a Police Protection Notice restricting proximity to the victim. Nevertheless, within hours, he visited her father’s house and slashed the tires of both the woman’s and her father’s cars.
During a later visit to collect personal items, the woman discovered her deceased child’s baby blanket, which had been defaced with the phrase “is dead” written beneath the embroidered name. The tribunal was also informed of the teacher’s previous conviction for breaching a domestic violence order related to another woman.
The man received a 15-month prison sentence, eligible for parole after serving one month plus previously held custody. The Civil and Administrative Tribunal highlighted concerns over his past inappropriate conduct in educational settings and ruled that he would be barred from applying for teacher registration for eight years, effectively preventing him from returning to teaching until 2034.
