Sam Bankman-Fried, the former cryptocurrency executive convicted of fraud and conspiracy, reportedly declined the romantic overtures of a female inmate during his incarceration at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn. According to accounts, the 34-year-old was housed in the facility’s protective custody unit, known as "4 North," from August 2023 until March 2025.

The female detainee allegedly sought to engage Bankman-Fried through letters and sent him provocative photographs, attempting to initiate a flirtatious relationship. Bankman-Fried responded by clearly expressing his lack of interest. His refusal surprised other inmates, who reacted strongly to the rejection.

Bankman-Fried described the reaction as unexpected and noted the intense environment among the predominantly male inmate population. He commented on the stark contrast between typical prison dangers and the emotional impact of losing access to rare images of a female inmate, which appeared to hold significant value in the facility’s social dynamics.

Following his time in Brooklyn, Bankman-Fried is currently serving a 25-year sentence at a federal prison in Lompoc, California. His conviction stemmed from charges related to fraud and conspiracy connected to his role in a major cryptocurrency collapse.
