Crystal Palace have completed the signing of defender Oscar Mingueza, marking their first transfer under new manager Pierre Sage. The 27-year-old Spaniard joins the club on a free transfer following his departure from Celta Vigo. Mingueza has put pen to paper on a four-year contract with the Premier League side at Selhurst Park.
Mingueza, who has earned four caps for Spain, primarily played as a right or left full-back during his most recent season in LaLiga. However, he is also capable of operating as a centre-back, providing added versatility to Crystal Palace’s defensive options. This is particularly significant for the club after the sale of Marc Guehi earlier in the season, with no direct replacement signed in the January transfer window.
The defender’s signing follows reported interest from Aston Villa, who were also keen on securing his services. Crystal Palace’s acquisition of Mingueza strengthens their backline as they prepare for the upcoming campaign under Sage.
In addition to bolstering their defense, Crystal Palace are reportedly seeking to add a central midfielder to their squad. The club’s pursuit of Middlesbrough’s Hayden Hackney was reportedly unsuccessful, with Everton securing the player’s signature ahead of them.
As Crystal Palace look to shape their squad for the 2026-2027 season, the addition of Mingueza offers a blend of experience and positional flexibility, aligning with Sage’s plans to reinforce the team’s defensive structure. Further midfield reinforcements may yet follow as the transfer window progresses.
