Students at Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) maintained a full campus shutdown on Monday, marking the fifth consecutive day of protests against the appointment of Professor Sheikh Shariful Alam as vice chancellor. The demonstrators are demanding the reversal of his appointment and the reinstatement of former vice chancellor Professor Abu Sadat Muhammad Sayem.

The protests have seen thousands of students gather on campus, many holding red cards as a symbol of opposition to the new administration. In addition, graffiti critical of the appointment has appeared on several university buildings. The unrest has extended beyond the student body as the CUET Teachers’ Association initiated a complete work stoppage in support of the demonstrations.

Association president Professor Mohammad Ahsan Ullah and general secretary Professor Abul Hasan announced the faculty’s refusal to carry out their duties until the administration meets the students' demands. Both leaders emphasized that the protests and work abstention would remain peaceful despite the escalating tension.

Meanwhile, Professor Sheikh Shariful Alam has continued to assume his role remotely, joining CUET activities online amid the ongoing turmoil. His virtual presence has further intensified the dispute among students, faculty members, and the university administration. The situation remains unresolved as all parties hold firm to their positions.
