The private folk heritage museum in Jayroud, located in the Damascus countryside, was officially inaugurated in the presence of Qatar’s Minister of Culture, HE Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al Thani, alongside Syria’s Minister of Culture Mohammad Yassin Saleh. The opening ceremony took place recently, drawing various officials and cultural figures interested in heritage preservation.
The museum aims to serve as a significant addition to Syria’s cultural landscape by showcasing a collection of artefacts that document social and economic aspects of local life, alongside the customs and traditions that have shaped the region over centuries. According to museum representatives, the initiative is designed to revive and safeguard cultural memory, promote folklore, and raise awareness across all segments of society.
Exhibits include a wide array of rare artefacts such as antique household and agricultural tools, traditional costumes, and items that reflect daily life in historical periods. These are presented within a traditional architectural setting that preserves Jayroud’s authentic regional character. This environment is intended to provide visitors with a comprehensive cultural experience that connects them to the spirit and heritage of the area.
Officials highlighted the museum’s role as a cultural repository that contributes to the understanding and appreciation of Syria’s diverse environment and history. The project underscores a shared commitment between Qatar and Syria to protect cultural legacies and ensure their transmission to future generations.
