The State of Qatar is participating in the fourth edition of the Al Diwan Arabic Book Fair, which opened in Berlin on October 16 and runs through October 18. The Ministry of Culture is leading Qatar’s involvement, presenting a cultural programme that includes five seminars exploring various aspects of literature, publishing, and cultural identity.
The ministry’s participation aims to highlight Qatar’s intellectual and literary contributions while fostering dialogue and collaboration with writers, publishers, and cultural institutions worldwide. This engagement aligns with Qatar’s broader strategy to enhance its presence in international cultural forums and deepen connections within the global book and publishing community.
Jassim Ahmed al-Buainain, Director of the Libraries Department at the Ministry of Culture and Director of the Doha International Book Fair, emphasized that the timing of Qatar’s participation coincides with the Frankfurt Book Fair, also held in Germany. He noted that this dual presence offers a strategic opportunity to showcase local publications and cultural initiatives on a prominent international stage and to strengthen relationships with cultural stakeholders worldwide.
The series of seminars being held under Qatar’s programme addresses diverse themes, including the role of book fairs in cultural exchange, the significance of the sea in Qatari memory, the influence of cultural institutions in fostering dialogue and mutual understanding between societies, the current status of Arabic poetry, and developments in digital literature and contemporary publishing.
Al-Buainain highlighted that the ministry’s involvement reflects Qatar’s commitment to elevating its cultural footprint globally by promoting intellectual engagement and supporting the exchange of cultural expertise. The fair serves as a platform for showcasing Qatar’s literary achievements and for expanding international cultural cooperation.
Through this participation, the Ministry of Culture seeks to reinforce cultural relations and facilitate communication among different peoples, underscoring Qatar’s role as an active contributor to the international cultural and literary landscape.
