Cutter Gauthier scored twice on the power play and captain Mikael Granlund added a decisive power-play goal early in overtime, leading the Anaheim Ducks to a 3-2 victory over the Florida Panthers on Sunday night. The win marked the Ducks’ 11th consecutive triumph in home openers and improved their record to 2-0-0 for the season.

Leo Carlsson played a key role for Anaheim, recording three assists, including the final setup for Granlund’s overtime winner at 4:14 in front of Panthers goaltender Jacob Markstrom. Lukas Dostal made 29 saves in net to help secure the victory.

Gauthier continued to build on his strong start to the season, delivering his 12th career multi-goal game and adding an assist on the game-winning goal. This was his first home appearance since signing a six-year, $81 million contract extension last month, following a breakout 41-goal campaign last season.

The Panthers fought back late in regulation, with Brad Marchand scoring a tying goal with just 1:50 remaining in the third period during his season debut. Florida’s defenseman Radko Gudas faced his former team for the first time since captaining the Ducks for the previous two seasons. Additionally, forward A.J. Greer played against his former team after joining Florida in the offseason.

The Ducks demonstrated strong special teams play, converting both of their power-play opportunities, while holding off a late surge by the Panthers in a game that underscored Anaheim’s early-season momentum.
