Dame Sarah Storey, Britain’s most decorated Paralympian, has joined the cast of the upcoming series of Strictly Come Dancing. The 48-year-old cyclist, who has amassed 30 Paralympic medals including 19 golds, will take part alongside other confirmed contestants such as EastEnders actress Lacey Turner, Love Island star Dani Dyer, and Australian singer Delta Goodrem.

Storey had previously been scheduled to compete in ITV’s Dancing on Ice last year but withdrew after sustaining a fractured ankle during training. The ice skating show has since been cancelled. According to a source close to Storey, she is enthusiastic about the opportunity to learn a new skill and eager to showcase both her competitive spirit and personality on the ballroom dance floor. She is also looking forward to the glamour associated with the programme, including the chance to dress up for performances.

Strictly Come Dancing has a history of featuring Paralympians among its competitors. Previous participants include runner Jonnie Peacock, table tennis player Will Bayley, cyclist Jody Cundy, and swimmer Ellie Simmonds. Storey’s addition continues this trend, highlighting the show’s commitment to diverse talent.

Last week, Turner, 38, became the first widely confirmed contestant for the new season, following media reports weeks earlier. Dyer, 29, who was forced to pull out of last year’s series due to injury, has also confirmed her participation.

The new series of Strictly Come Dancing will be hosted by Emma Willis, comedian Josh Widdicombe, and professional dancer Johannes Radebe. This marks a change in presentation following the departures of long-standing hosts Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly. The show is expected to return to BBC One later this year.
