A family of swans that wandered into a residential area in Corby, Northamptonshire, was safely returned to its natural habitat after being rescued by a waterfowl charity. The group—two adult swans and four cygnets—were initially spotted wandering through a housing estate before settling on a front lawn.

The Waterfowl Sanctuary in Godmanchester, Cambridgeshire, was contacted to assist with the situation. Rescuers, including Graham Porter, collected the birds using large blue bags for transport. “The birds seemed as if they were waiting for a taxi home,” Porter said.

Following some investigation, the rescue team located the swans’ likely origin at Pen Green lakes, approximately one mile from the site where the birds were found. Local residents near the lakes had expressed concern over the absence of the swan family. Upon arrival, the sanctuary staff encountered a person relieved to learn the birds had been found and who helped carry them from the vehicle.

Once returned to the lakes, volunteers took time to remove fishing lines and brambles from the area to ensure a safer environment for the swans. The family promptly reentered the water and swam away, returning to their natural surroundings.

The event highlights the importance of local community awareness and cooperation with wildlife rescue organizations to safeguard displaced animals.
