Cameron Norrie experienced an early exit at the Shanghai Masters, falling to qualifier Dalibor Svrcina in the tournament's first round on Thursday. Svrcina, ranked 126th in the world, secured a 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 win over the former British No. 1.
Norrie initially faced a challenging start, trailing by a set and a break, but managed to level the match in the second set. Despite this recovery, he was unable to maintain momentum, with Svrcina capitalizing on a vulnerable service game in the deciding set to close out the victory. This marks Norrie’s fourth consecutive loss in professional play, although two of those defeats came at the hands of world No. 2 Alexander Zverev.
Meanwhile, in Beijing at the China Open, fourth seed Mirra Andreeva advanced to the semi-finals after a tightly contested match against Ekaterina Alexandrova. Andreeva overcame a deficit of 5-3 in the first set and prevailed in two tiebreaks, winning 7-6, 7-6.
Andreeva’s next opponent will be 20-year-old Nikola Bartunkova, who continued her impressive run by dispatching fellow Czech Karolina Muchova with a 6-3, 6-0 victory. The upcoming semi-final between Andreeva and Bartunkova highlights the strong presence of young talent in the event.
