An Idaho man faces manslaughter charges after a car crash last November in which his 7-year-old son was killed. Austin Summers, 31, was driving a GMC Sierra pickup truck on Interstate 84 in Canyon County when he collided with a slower-moving vehicle shortly before the accident.

According to court documents cited by local authorities, Summers rear-ended a 2013 Ford F450 that was experiencing mechanical difficulties and traveling at approximately 7 miles per hour in the far-right lane. Summers’ truck reportedly struck the Ford at a speed between 73 and 75 miles per hour, while the posted speed limit was 65 mph.

Graham Summers, the driver’s eldest son who was seated in the front passenger seat, died as a result of the crash. Summers’ two younger children, ages 3 and 5 at the time, were in the rear seats of the truck and were not injured.

Investigators found evidence that Summers was using his cellphone in the minutes leading up to the collision. Records indicate he was engaged in activities including drafting an Instagram story, viewing photos on his phone, and browsing Amazon between 2:45 p.m. and 3:02 p.m., just before the crash occurred on November 25, 2025.

The incident has raised concerns about distracted driving, with authorities emphasizing the dangers of cellphone use behind the wheel. Summers, who resides in Meridian, Idaho, was formally charged with manslaughter last week in connection with the fatal collision. The investigation remains ongoing as the legal process continues.
