Spain midfielder Dani Olmo has expressed confidence in teammate Lamine Yamal’s potential impact ahead of their upcoming World Cup match against Belgium. Despite entering the tournament carrying a left hamstring injury, the 19-year-old Yamal has started to gain momentum and is expected to play a crucial role as Spain pursues its second World Cup title.
Yamal has scored once so far, netting a goal during Spain’s 4-0 group stage victory over Saudi Arabia. However, he has yet to register an assist. Olmo, who also plays alongside Yamal at Barcelona, emphasized that the young forward’s contributions extend beyond traditional statistics.
“He’s doing well, with more confidence,” Olmo said, highlighting Yamal’s growing eagerness to prove himself on the pitch. “The connection I have with him shows in how we play with and without the ball. He contributes a lot to the team and will continue to do so. I’m sure he’ll give us even more in the next match.”
Olmo noted that Yamal’s presence on the field often draws multiple defenders, thereby creating opportunities in other areas for Spain’s attack. “It’s not just about the numbers,” Olmo explained. “When he receives the ball, two or three defenders close in on him. That opens up space for others. We are confident he will score again and perform very well.”
Spain enters the match against Belgium undefeated in 35 consecutive games and remains secure defensively, having yet to concede a goal across five matches this tournament. The team’s strong run has set high expectations for continued success as they advance further in the competition.
