Danika Mason, a sports presenter for the Today show and a prominent figure in the Nine Network’s rugby league coverage, has announced that she and partner Liam Knight are expecting their first child. The news was revealed by Mason during a live broadcast on Wednesday morning, and she later confirmed it through her social media channels. The couple is expecting a daughter due in December.

Mason shared her feelings about the announcement, expressing gratitude to viewers for the opportunity to share the news first. “We feel so honoured to be brought into your households every single morning, so when there’s news here, it’s nice to share it with you guys first before the rest of the world gets to hear about it,” she said. She noted that the upcoming off-season would be busier than usual as they prepare for the new addition to their family.

The pregnancy had been kept private in recent weeks while Mason continued her duties on air, including coverage of the National Rugby League (NRL) and the State of Origin series. She has been a consistent presence during the first two matches of the series and is set to be part of the broadcast team for the decider at Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium next Wednesday.

Mason and Knight made their relationship public in 2024 and became engaged last year during a trip to Italy. Knight, a former NRL player with experience at several clubs including South Sydney, spent several years playing in England’s Super League for Hull FC, which meant the couple maintained a long-distance relationship. He returned to Australia this year and signed with the Cessnock Goannas.

Despite experiencing bouts of morning sickness, Mason said she has received strong support from her colleagues at Nine Network. “Everyone here has been so supportive,” she said, referring to the challenges she faced while managing her symptoms alongside her on-air responsibilities.

The announcement has been met with positive reactions from both fans and colleagues, marking a joyful moment for the couple as they prepare to welcome their first child later this year.
