Liam Davies advanced to the quarter-finals of the English Open with a 4-1 victory over reigning world champion Wu Yize at the Brentwood Leisure Centre. Davies took an early 3-0 lead in the match, bolstered by a 105 break in the second frame. Wu managed to secure a frame to narrow the margin, but Davies closed out the contest with a 72-47 win in the fifth to secure his place among the last eight.

In other afternoon session matches, Kyren Wilson overcame Mark Selby in a tight encounter that went to a deciding frame. Wilson recovered from behind to defeat Selby, who had been the runner-up at the British Open just last week.

China’s Zhou Yuelong also progressed, recording a 4-2 victory against fellow countryman Yuan Sijun. Zhou produced a break of 141 during the match, marking one of the tournament’s highest scores so far. The English Open continues to feature strong performances as players vie for the title at Brentwood.
